the potty-training chronicles, part I

I can’t believe my daughter is already 28 months old, time is sure flying by. Lately, it feels like lightning speed with the new baby coming soon. So we have finally decided to dedicate some serious time to potty training. Our goal is to have her successfully potty trained by December right before the baby comes. I so want to avoid having two children in diapers. Cross your fingers everyone, please!

I think she is finally prepared, we have completely transitioned to pull ups and she is able to pull them on and off on her own. We have watched the “Elmo’s Goes Potty” DVD more times than I can count and read the “Once upon a Potty” book to her every night for the past two weeks. She understands the concept of the toilet; we just have to convince her to actually go. We even received a couple of helpful tools while at the ABC Expo in Las Vegas last month. We have a Dora the Explorer potty training rewards chart, the Once upon a Potty, potty and some other special treats that make the toilet water change color.

In addition, I decided to take some of the advice I received from my friends at mayasmom.com and bought a couple of incentives to help encourage her to sit on the potty. I elected for toys since her taste in food changes on a daily basis. Thanks mayasmom.com.

I am still a little weary about going cold turkey and switching to underwear, even though many people suggested it. However, I can admit that my new couch might have something to do with it.

So for the next couple of weeks we will see how it goes with the pull ups, if we are still unsuccessful then we will go cold turkey.

My little girl is growing up and I’m excited and sad at the same time. We will keep you updated of our potty training success follow along with the Potty Training Chronicles.

I am going through this process with my 28 month old too! She has decided that she will not go on the potty at home, not even entertain the idea…but at day care, she goes all day and stays dry pretty much all day. I don’t get it! I don’t try to pressure her, only encourage, but don’t over do it. I offer stickers and m&m’s for her just to sit on the potty…but she is selective on days.

I will be back to check your status…hopefully for some clues on how this works! ;) Good luck!
