My name is Dianne Velez. I am the mom of 2 fabulous kids (Arias will be 4 in December and Nilsa will be 2 on the 27th of this month) and wife to a amazing husband for the last 8 years.
Alongside my husband I own Colorblind Productions a wedding and special events company. I am the primary event coordinator, the bilingual/Spanish Master of ceremonies, one of the primary videographers, the sales person, back office worker, accountant, and admin. I also update the company blog. Basically, I’m the at all be all behind the scenes and one of the main front men. Most of our meetings are held on off hours in our home office and on the weekends when not at events. Weekends are generally full with events. Here’s our basic bio…
Serving the greater New York region with headquarters in New Jersey, Colorblind Productions caters to its brides and grooms with a client centered focus. We feature a variety of services including DJ, photo, video, custom gobo, projection, karaoke, coordination, and plasma screens. We also specialize in multigenerational, multicultural & Latin weddings and offer bilingual M.C.’s. Colorblind Productions is the recipient of Wedding Wire’s Bride’s Choice Award, and 2008 Best of Project Wedding award, seen on the reality shows Whose Wedding is it Anyway and Cake Boss, and is mentioned in Event Solutions Magazine, the Knot Magazine and featured in Wedding Bells Magazine.
Beyond this, I work full time. Monday thru Friday from 8am to 5pm I work for a Hedge Fund in Short Hills NJ. I’m the executive assistant to the 2 directors/owners and assist on the trading desk.
I have a blog http://laflacad.com where I purge my mind over the trials and tribulations of what is my life. I lament the time I lack with my children, agonize over feeling untrue to myself and document the joy of watching my children’s realizations of life and the joy they bring to me. I also write about mundane and trivial matters as well.
My son starts preschool this week. I’m both excited and alarmed at how time flies.
I like to tell myself I’m not stressed out. Some days I have a hard time believing myself. I fantasize of coming home to a quiet house, of waking up with no responsibilities. I titled my blog ‘attempting to defeat superwoman syndrome’ and I do my best at it. I’ve learned that I cannot be everything for everyone and that I take time to do the things that bring me happiness. Playing with my children, laughing with my husband and enjoying life as much as possible. I will always maximize time for them. They are what keep me grounded and they are the reason I work so hard.
