Last week I finally received my 30mm Sigma it’s been on back order for several weeks so I was excited when it finally arrived. I have been using the Canon 50mm 1.8 nearly exclusively for the past year and decided to invest in another lens to give myself more room when taking indoor pictures. Since I am on a cropped sensor camera the 30mm focal length actually translates to a 50mm. That being said my 50mm was translating to nearly 80mm which is why I’ve been feeling a little cramped indoors.
Sigma 30mm f/ 1.4 Lens Specs
Focal Length: 30mm
Maximum Aperture: f/1.4
Lens construction: 7 elements in 7 groups
Angle of view: 45 degrees (SD format)
Minimum aperture: f/16
Minimum focusing distance: 15.7 inches
Filter size: 62mm
I’ve been trying to shoot with it for a week and finally was able to get some time in this weekend. My kids have been less than supportive with my “testing” process so I went on a photo shoot with my Dad at the San Fernando Mission.
I am very happy with my purchase the Sigma handles low light situations better than any lens I have tested. I’ve even been able to take pictures indoors at ISO levels of 200 and 400, which has been impossible with my 50mm.
I love how sharp the images are even at f/ 1.4. Here are some quick shots taken with the 30mm. These are straight from the camera and not edited.

I did manage to get some pictures of Bizzie Princess on Valentine’s Day; luckily she was in a very photographic mood for about 20 minutes.

Next on my list is the Sigma 70mm 2.8 macro lens. I have a macro extention tube but it’s really hard to focus with. A tripod is difently needed.
