Jennifer James owns several niche web sites from the Mom Bloggers Club to the Gamer Moms Club. I create sites that speak to the specific needs of its users. I’m a web entrepreneur.

What inspired you start your business?
I was inspired to meet other moms online because I was extremely lonely being at home with a toddler. I needed to reach out and find community online.

How long have you been in business?
I have been creating sites since 2003. The Internet has come a long way since then. Back when I started forums and guest books were all the rage. Now, it’s all about social networking.

What did you do in your past work life?
Before I started dabbling on the Net I was a stay-at-home mom. Now, even though I still stay at home, I consider myself a working mom because I put in seriously long hours with my business.

Describe your ideal workday.
My ideal workday would be to get through all of my emails and product pitches with the greatest of ease and efficiency. That, of course, is my ideal day. I don’t think it will happen anytime soon.

What have been some of your major successes?
I have had a lot of successes since starting my Web sites. I have met some extremely amazing and talented people on the Net. And I have had the awesome opportunity to work with companies that understand mom bloggers. It’s been a ton of fun thus far.

What have been some of your major challenges?
My major challenges have all revolved around striking a balance between my work and everyday life. Because I work from home it is so easy for me to let everything merge together, but I really need to figure out a way to keep everything separate. It’s something I struggle with each day.

On those impossible days, what motivates you to keep going?
I really don’t have impossible days because I always look on the bright side of things. I always know another opportunity is just around the corner.

Do you have a motivational quote?
Do what you truly love and everything else will fall into place.

What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?
I still struggle with balancing everything. As much as I can I set boundaries between my work and my home life, but things do seem to overlap at times. I’m still working on it.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to your children about running a successful business, what would it be?
I have two daughters and I always tell them to follow their dream. I don’t care if they want to be an artist or a runner or a doctor or dentist. I encourage them to follow their own dreams and be happy. My husband and I will support them in anything they do.

Do you have a favorite business tool and/or resource?
My favorite business tool is ingenuity and creativity.

What is next for your business?
To be honest, I have no idea what is next for my business. I just go day by day and wait until my next burst of creativity hits me.
