What inspired you to start your business?
The birth of my fourth child and the resignation of my nanny.

How long have you been in business?
8 years

What did you do in your past work life?
Spent 20 years in corporate marketing.

Describe your ideal workday.
Some writing; some gathering writing material; working with other Moms and social media networking.

What have been some of your major successes?
Landing book contracts with major publishers and writing for major newspapers and magazines. Also had a television show for two seasons.

What have been some of your major challenges?
Balance, of course (like all Moms)

On those impossible days, what motivates you to keep going?
It’s all material for me.

Do you have motivational quote?
“I only have two hands, and one of them is usually holding a glass of chardonnay.”

What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?
I don’t focus on balancing, I focus on blending.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to your children about running a successful business, what would it be?
It’s only work if you’d rather be somewhere else. Go for it.

Do you have a favorite business tool and/or resource?
My BlackBerry, of course.

What is next for your business?
My next book is called “Shut Up & Eat: Savouring the Joy of Family Bonding Time”
