i’m at a crossroad do i go mac or stay with pc

As I sit her typing on my pink Dell Inspiron, I have to wonder how much more time I will have with it. Will it be able to sustain life if I pull the plug on the cooling box it rests on? I’ve tried it a couple of times so I could watch Fringe in the living room to only be disappointed. We’ve had 2 flat lines (random shut down) in the last few months and I’m wondering if she’ll pull out of the next one.

I fear my time with my Dell will be short, which means it’s time to start shopping for a new computer. So my question is this do I make the switch from PC to Mac?  My hubs said, “No” and will refuse to support the Mac if I buy one. He swears they have just as many issues as the PC, different issues but about the same. In case you were wondering he worked in IT for several years.

So I’m looking at the MacBook Pro 15 inch @ $2299.00

mac
Or the HP Envy 15 (limited edition) @ $2299.00

HP

Which would you choose and why?

I say if they cost the same price go for the Mac. DO they have issue, yes.But Apple offers better customer service and repair than HP ever will. Your problems on the Mac will be minor in comparison. I too have worked in IT and for years believed much of what you husband does. However, after owning both machines, I have to say that while my hard drive did die on my Mac and am using two PC because they were givn to me free, if I had to purchase a computer that would be my primary design computer, it would be a Mac.

In addition, you will find better FREE software for a Mac than for a PC.

I would totally say HP. Dell SUCKS, btw. LOL I have had HP desktops and laptops and I have to say, after having an eMachines and a Dell and comparing them, I will NEVER buy anything but HP. I’ve never owned a Mac, but honestly I’ve never been impressed with them – options seem much broader and compatibility is much higher for many programs with PC as opposed to Mac.

To counter the previous comment, HP actually has awesome customer service in my experience. My first HP back in 2002 required service and they were AWESOME… same thing when I needed service again in 2006. Both times were actually issues caused by my kids (oops) but um I didn’t mention that part, and HP covered it all – including shipping there and back – under my warranty. I’m hands-down a 100% full blooded HP girl :) lol

But, hey… if you get the HP and decide you’d rather have the Mac, you can just ship that baby over here to Louisiana… I’ll give it a good home :)

I’m a Mac girl all the way – yes they have issues, but I think they are easier to deal with than PC issues. Also… for the same money it’s been my experience that you’ll get a couple more years out of the Mac than you will the PC. My Mac’s generally give me a good 5 years work before they need to be replaced. The PC’s Hubby uses (and my computer gets a lot more usage and has a lot more software than his) generally only last about 3 years – and we aren’t buying him cheap junk either.

I have a MacBook Pro. I got it in July to take to BlogHer. I have yet to have the love affair with it that die hard Mac fans assured me I would. I do like it but I miss many things on the PC (Outlook especially). I don’t have the extra cash to buy all the things I need to get the Mac running the way I want it to (word processing program, wireless router, Apple Care). I have Adobe CS3 on the PC and definitely can’t re-purchase it in Mac format.

I love the way it looks but I’m not totally convinced it was the perfect decision for me.

    Thanks Melanie
You are so right about the software. I would hate to have to go out and by everything all over again.
