An easy to use digital white balance tool for ALL lens sizes.
Some people say white balance is not that important with a DSLR, “You can just fix it in Photoshop.” While you can fix white balance problems in Photoshop, wouldn’t it be great to correct white balance in a camera? After all, who wants to spend EXTRA hours editing. I was given the opportunity to test out the color right product first hand with my own Canon DSLR. With so many light temperatures in my house I would always get pictures that were to yellow or to blue and never right.
I found the Color Right and Color Right Pro very easy to use and it takes less than 15 seconds to set your camera up with the correct white balance.
Color Right
Don’t let this simple little disk full you, it can correct your white balance in less than 15 seconds. Here’s how it works in 4 easy steps.
- Turn the auto focus off on your lens
- Point at your subject, hold the color right over the lens and take one photo
- Press the menu button and find Custom WB, Click Set twice.
*This step may be different, depending on what type of camera you have
*This step is based on a Canon XS - Turn you auto focus back on and snap away.
The cool thing about Color Right is that it works with different size lenses so you don’t have to buy one for every lens you own, which you have to do with other white balance products.

Color Right Pro
The Color Right Pro is also an easy to use tool. It does everything the original Color Right does plus a lot more. The Color Right Pro is designed to be used with your built in or external flash. It gathers light from multiple angles to ensure you are getting the whole color picture. All you have to do is place the Color Right pro over your lens and point and shoot. Assign the picture to your Custom WB and you are ready to go.
Similar to the Color Right, the pro is also designed to be used with ALL lenses.
ColorRight helps you produce print-ready images the first time.

ColorRight PostRight
A new product by ColoRight is the PostRight, a Super Gray Card that helps you create pleasing skin tones. It cannot be used for in-camera white balance, and must be used with a computer and raw post product flow.
You can purchase ColorRight products online at www.colorright.com.

Great article. Looks like that would be really helpful. I need a good camera first!

I purchased the Expodisc in 2008 and have had great success. The only difference I see between the Expodisc and the ColorRight is one, you take a test shot directly at your subject. The other, you shoot an image back at the light. Did that make sense to you??
I wish I had the ColorRight to test!!
Lisa, I have a colorright with my nikon, using nikon instructions, and the shots are blue. Can’t seem to find an answer why.
