five tips to grow your consulting or freelance business

As I’m sure everyone is aware by now, especially after seeing my confession-like videos during the Clean Start Challenge, I’m in the middle of re-launching my freelance/consulting business.  So when I stumbled on this Forbes.com article, Five Tips to Grow Your Consulting or Freelance Business, I just had to share.

I realized I’m already screwing up in FIRST TIP!

“Do people know you are in business, and do they know what business that is? Your network might still think of you as an executive at Time Warner or Pfizer or whatever large corporation and not realize you want consulting work. Even if they know you are open for business, do they know what business leads to refer? Have you educated them on what your ideal project and/or client is?”

While I’ve announced I’m going to start freelancing, even started building out the site bizziecreative.com. I’ve never announced what I will or really want to do in business nor did I announce what business I’m going into.

Duh!

Well stay tuned, details coming soon. So glad I stumbled on this Forbes.com article.

    Stephanie,
I am a mother of two and the owner of Loving Reflections Scrapbooks. My customers are typically busy moms who want to have beautiful scrapbooks but lack either the time or the skills to create their own.

I have enjoyed looking through your website and was wondering how I could get involved with the mom entrepreneur interviews? It seems like a great way to get the word out on some great new businesses.

    Thank you for your time,

I can so relate to this. I’m guilty of not letting people in my network know what I do. I think it could be because I want to be in business first before they really know what’s going on. I have slowly dripped the word, but I pretty sure not event those close to me know exactly what I do.
