Since I just received word my new Canon Rebel XS is on its way I thought I would browse around cyberspace to find some great photography tutorial and resource sites. I have to say as a couple we are horrible when it comes to picture taking. In fact we spent an entire week in Cabo for our Honeymoon and only took two pictures the entire trip. Sad I know.
Then we had Bizzie Princess and someone gave us their used Sony Cybershot and I took a ton of pictures of her. But the camera was slow so getting “the shot” was next to impossible. So then we bought Canon PowerShot which I fell in love with. Fast shutter speed I was taking pictures for days. Then Bizzie Boy came along so more pictures were taken. None of mom of course because who was the photographer. But the battery started to wear down and eventually it became impossible to get in an entire photo shoot without having to break for a battery charge.
So now my “real” camera is on its way and I can’t wait. I’ve asked around on twitter.com, twittermoms.com and mombloggersclub.com and came up with a great list of photography resource sites.
Cool Photo Ideas (www.coolphotoideas.com)
A great place to visit if you looking for great things to do with those awesome photographs you are taking. You can even find tips on how to hire a photographer and some photo tips. They are hosting a giveaway right now for a 160GB Portable Backup Drive and a 3-pack of their Photo DVD Backup software to one lucky. No need to enter though, because I just did and you know I’m going to win. But if you want go ahead and enter.
Digital Photography School (http://digital-photography-school.com)
Digital Photography School came highly recommended almost everyone mentioned this site when I asked for a good resource. On this site you can find tips for all types of photography at various levels. I guess I would be a bit of a beginner even though I’ve taken some photography classes in college. I’ll probably get some more lessons from my Dad when I go to visit. He is an awesome landscape photographer. There is even a forum where you can collect weekly assignments now that sounds like some fun!
Shutter Sisters (http://shuttersisters.com)
This is an interesting blog that is worth a read. Shutter Sisters, the collaborative photo blog that welcomes all women with a passion for photography from experts to amateurs alike. I find their shots inspirational and as a bonus they have some great giveaways on the site. Maybe I’ll be able to create something fantastic they will want to post.
Digital Pro Talk (http://digitalprotalk.blogspot.com/)
David Ziser’s blog that covers his latest images, tips, techniques and news for digital photography and Photoshop. David is an internationally renowned portrait and wedding photographer.

One of my goals for 2009 is to get better at digital photography. Thanks for the great resources. This gets a star in my Google reader.
I was an on and off picture taker before I married, but I married into an if-1-is-good-then-12-are-better sort of family. And this was *before* the advent of digital photography. I have now moved on to the world of (literally) 400 pictures per birthday party. My favorite site is mypublisher.com. I like that you can make the albums on your own machine and upload them in their entirity to the My Publisher site. Quality is excellent and service is very fast.
