This Saturday I took Bizzie Princess to the hair salon with me, yes she even got her hair done as well. The plan was to get pictures taken this weekend, but well we all know when we try and “plan” things when kids are involved. So we’ll be taking our “Holiday” photos at the beginning of the year, we’ll just call the “New Year” photos.
Back to Bizzie Princess.
Having to do BP’s hair every morning is a constant struggle; even the TV doesn’t entertain her enough to keep her cute little head still. Through her brother, who tries to shove all the hair things in his mouth but not until he empties my entire bucket, into the mix and well it’s a time consuming challenge.
So I decided to take her to get her hair done, pressed, to see how she likes it and for the pictures we didn’t take. She’s very observant about the difference in hair textures among her friends. A couple of weeks ago the Hubs walked in on her at school getting ready to take down her poof balls since all the girls were taking their hair down. He stopped her in time but boy was she mad. Then to top it off, one of her little friends starts waving her “flowing” hair around as if to taunt her. RUDE! I had no idea, “mean girl behavior” started so soon.
She even tells me constantly how much she likes my “relaxed” hair. She doesn’t say relaxed because she doesn’t know what that means. But I think you get the idea.
I don’t really remember being so concerned about hair at such a young age, but hey I have a Princess on my hand. Something I clearly wasn’t as a child.
My daughter watched in awe as the hair dresser combed, relaxed and washed my hair. She wanted to know when it was her turn. She was so excited, so happy.

We put her in the chair and took out her little poof balls and she watched every move Esther made through the mirror. She was a little nervous at the sink but she was brave. The price you pay right?
She did a wonderful job. We did have to break out the emergency DVD player for a bit of Tinker Bell but she did a wonderful job in keeping still.
And when she was all finished she looked in the mirror, shook her “new” hair like she was a different girl. I wish I could remember how I felt the first time my mom pressed my hair.
Here are a couple of the after shots.

There are a couple of things that concern me about her reaction.
When we asked her if she wanted her hair styled with curls or left straight? She almost started to cry. I hope she doesn’t think one is better than the other. I think she likes it straight because it makes her “look” like her friends at school. I guess we will have to have THAT talk soon.
We had some great M&D time (mommy and daughter) time and I don’t think I’ll ever forget it.

Stephanie, you are doing such a great job with the kids. BP looks so cute with the new hair look. The 1st and 5th picture she looks like her mom, but on the 3rd and 4th picture she looks like her dad. The 2nd picture she just looks like BP, with the diva personality. By the way when I came on you and Craig was talking about her friendly personality with people. Yes, you are right, you need to have a thumb up or down talk with her.
Love you

This is one of the things I dread. My daughter is half black/half white and I hate that my black friends are constantly saying that she has “good hair” because I don’t want her to grow up with that complex. Her hair is very hard to manage and her curls get tangled so much but I don’t want her to think that she needs a relaxer to have great hair.
Oh boy, I am dreading this.
She is so sweet and adorable. As long as we’re reminding our daughter they’re BEAUTIFUL no matter what their hair grade is, etc…I think they’ll grow up to be well rounded young ladies.
Oh BP is adorable! I really need to take my girls to the salon with me…well, just one of them. My eldest has wash ‘n go hair that looks gorgeous even after she’s rolled out of bed. My 5 yo daughter – whoa – now that girl has got some HAIR! I’m dreading the salon mostly because she is so dang tender-headed and I know how much I pay…do I really want to pay that much for a kid?
She is so cute!! So sweet to have that time together, and bless her heart… so sad that the girls are acting that way. She’s adorable though!!!!!
