Why is it so hard to pick a name for your baby? My husband and I are a little non-traditional and wanted to pick names that identify them as individuals instead of clones of others in the family. Meaning there will not be a juniors or a Craig II. We won’t have a William or a Pierre. I guess by now you have figured out that I am having a boy this go around. You are right! And we are thrilled but now we must undergo the difficult task of naming him.
For some reason it was a lot easier with our daughter. We had a short list of names that quickly got eliminated when Myla came into the picture. My husband picked it out and the name totally suits her.
But for our now coming soon baby boy, we haven’t been able to agree on a name. I like Evan, he likes Trey and that is as far as we were able to get. So I decided to do some research on selecting a name and came across a great list on www.americanbaby.com.
Here are 5 things to remember when naming your baby:
- What are the initials?
Be conscience of the names you choose and the initials. For example, with a name like Caitlin Olivia Wells, you wouldn’t want to monogram on towels. - Does it rhyme?
Try to avoid names that rhyme, imagine what kids can do with a name like Hailey Elie or Randall Crandall. - What’s the nickname?
Look out for names that you wouldn’t want to have abbreviated. My Mom hated when people would call me Steph instead of Stephanie. Most people are going to want to shorten names like Phineous or Bartholomew so if you don’t like Phin or Bart you may want to avoid those names. - Does it have flexibility?
Will the name work if he or she decides to be a doctor? Lawyer? What about a rock star? Try and select a name that doesn’t pigeon hold your child. How many Doctor’s do you know named Apple, Pilot Inspektor, or Moxie CrimeFighter. - Does it have rhythm?
Name experts contend that short first names tend to go well with longer last names, and vice versa.
I hope these tips help you out, I know they have made me think a little harder about what to name our up and coming son. Today my favorite name is Kameron. Let me know what you think?

I love blogs like this one. You are 100% on point. Do I detect the least bit of sarcasm in your writing (re: ngs to remember when naming your baby : LaLa Baby Products Review)? Keep up the good work, I was looking around for information about Baby Gift Monogrammed when I say a link to here.
